New BLM Moab Field Office Manager

 Jeffrey “Rock” Smith, has been selected to serve as the new Moab Field Office Manager.  Shelley Smith, Canyon Country District Manager, made the announcement, stating that “Rock brings years of pertinent experience and leadership to the position as well as knowledge of the issues and opportunities in the Moab Field Office.”Prior to joining the Bureau of Land Management, Rock worked for Utah State Parks and Recreation as the park system’s planning coordinator responsible for leading resource and strategic planning efforts for numerous state parks and statewide programs. His experience in the Moab area includes a three-year detail as Superintendent of Arches National Park.

He was also Superintendent of Dead Horse Point State Park for 15 years. While at Dead Horse Point, he also supervised the state’s boating and off-highway vehicle programs in the Moab area.

A 25-year Moab resident and graduate of Utah State University, Rock has worked in various positions around the state for the Forest Service and Utah State Parks, including the Wasatch-Cache National Forest and the Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station in Logan, Steinaker State Park near Vernal, and This is the Place State Park in Salt Lake City.
